Journey 03 · Becominggrindingbuilding

Finish Something

I never complete things.

You become: Someone who finishes

Most ambitious people don't have a starting problem — they have a completion problem. Pick one unfinished thing, cut it down to something finishable, and close it.

Choose and define

  1. Understand20m

List every unfinished thing, then choose one

Write them all down — projects, drafts, half-built rooms, courses at 40%. Seeing the full list is uncomfortable and useful. Now pick the ONE you'd feel best having closed. Not the most valuable. The one whose completion would change how you see yourself.

You’ll have:A full list with one item circled.

  2. Understand15m

    Define 'done' in writing

Write the specific, checkable conditions that mean this is finished. "Good enough" is not a condition. "Published at this URL with these five sections" is. Unfinished things stay unfinished mostly because done was never defined.

You’ll have:A written, checkable definition of done.

  3. Practice20m

Cut the scope until it's finishable

Go through your definition of done and delete everything that isn't required for it to be genuinely complete. Aim to remove a third. Scope is the reason it stalled; scope is what you control.

    You’ll have:A definition of done that's a third smaller.
